hello, wher do u recommend to learn muay thai in sg?
Hello Keranz,
Well, having trained at BXG Fitness for the past 3 and a half years, I would say that BXG is currently one of the best places to learn Muay Thai in Singapore.
BXG is well-equipped with a variety of heavy bags for bagwork, a small free weights work out area for resistance training, a ring for effective ring experience, and we have proper sparring equipment in order to minimize injuries, and to ensure a safe environment suitable for conducive learning.
In addition, we have different classes to cater to people who are looking for specific types of training. We have a student class, applicable to students where you will be able to learn at an affordable price. If you aren't a student, lessons would begin with the basic classes, where you will learn all the essentials and fundamentals in Muay Thai. This would include learning to throw punches, kicks, elbows and knees, proper footwork and defense.
Once you are finished with the basic class, you can move up to more advanced classes where there will be a greater focus on using the various techniques you have learnt in the basic sessions, on moving targets (like, real flesh and blood humans!).
In addition, you'll be able to spar and learn from many people who train regularly at the gym. For example, Zach is a regular (who enjoys barking and kicking butt) and he has a whole wealth of experience from fighting overseas that you probably won't be able to find anywhere else in Singapore. Joe and Joy who are the two lead instructors, are well-spoken and capable teachers who have invaluable ring experience. Also something of note, Joy is the only Thai instructor in Singapore. Nothing beats having a living breathing Thai as an instructor. Now that's authentic Muay Thai for you. HA!
Unfortunately, other than Hilltop Muay Thai (where i originally started), I have not had the opportunity to train at other gyms in Singapore. So i am unable to give a proper review for the rest. I hope you give BXG a shot, I wouldn't think you would regret it.
Cheers.
Terence.
Hello Terence
I'd like to let you know that I'm a great fan of yours, and you display professionalism in the sport, both inside and outside of the ring.
I like BXG too, been there and there is absolutely no 'worshipping' crap there. And that earns my utmost respect. The gym is spacious, the equipments are new, and the location makes BXG Fitness easily accessible.
I get intimidated easily but your gym and the people are friendly and warm. Gets me at ease to learn Muay Thai. But I haven't been practicising it for a while now, ever since I've to start taking care of my grandchildren.
Anyway, all the best to you!
Warmest regards
YG.
I believe Terence is in NS now, probably he'll come on 28th to see the fights.
Hello gaijinu
Thank you so much for the info. So Terence wouldn't be fighting then, right? Didn't see his name in the poster. Would bring 20 of my friends & family down if he would be fighting!
Seems like Terrence is making a name for himself. Thats good,he definetly deserves it. He's a good boy. Very polite and well mannered. On top of that he trains and fights hard. Pity N.S will keep him out of action for awhile.
His weight category is by far the busiest one in Singapore so lotsa good fights and lotsa good match ups for him in time to come.
Hopefully even tho Terrence isn't fighting you can still bring 20 ppl down to watch the fights on Sat.
Hello YG,
I take it you didn't mean anyone actually worshipped crap....
What is "worshipping' crap?
Seriously, I'm curious, what do you mean?
Errr... yeah I'm courious as well....
Hello kiatsongrit
Aww... that boy seems like such a dear! Handsome young man.
Keeping my fingers crossed for Saturday
hehe...ok got it.
Worship & Idolise...?anyway, I think terence will be coming down on the 28th fist of fury. Probably, by then you could get a chance to know him better and some tips on muay thai.
Oi Terence how's the Army treating u! Saw u at the Plaza but u seemed busy with some lady friends
so left u alone, hope 2c u back in the scene real soon ya! Take care kiddo Cheers!
Hi Terence,
Just want some advise.
I am 23 and I just thought of learning muay thai and I have no martial art experience.
Do u think its a bit too late?
Thanks ...
Erm terence is currently serving in the army, I don't think he will be able to reply you... You have to wait till weekends to get a reply from him ba.
But I can give a word of advise, it ain't too late to learn something, I'm 23 this year too and just started learning MT... now I'm addicted to MT. I can't live my life w/o MT. I've seen uncle maybe in their 40's taking up thai boxing and we did not have any martial art background too. so its alright... Juz go ahead and take up.
Hey thanks,
so which gym are u in?
any recommendations?
erm as for gyms, all I could say is its really up to you to find out... I don't really have any recommendations as almost all the gyms are good and produced a couple of great nakmuays in Singapore. You could click on the links "Gyms" above to discover more about them.
Haha...sensitive?? Dun worry...i believe i know who grake is referring to....anyway..that so call uncle is in his 50s........woah!! The oldest so far I've seen is a 58 year old grandpa....and mind you, he is damn fit!!
Hi guys,
Yes I am doing my national service right now. Currently, I've just finished my basic military training, and am having a short break before I receive information on my posting to a new unit for further training. Life in NS has been pretty good thus far. Physical training is alright, but what I find tough would be the limitations of my freedom and having little time for myself, friends and my loved ones.
I'm really surprised to see the replies on the fighter page. It's a little weird but I'm really happy to hear about all the support. We need more people who are supportive of the fighters. I've been to some events where the spectators are very disrespectful and it's just such a turn-off. If you speak to the fighters, they usually have a lot of respect for one another despite having to face each other in combat. I think this is because we have first hand knowledge of how much time, effort, sweat and guts we have to put in before we even step into the squared circle. I am good friends with Louis and Jimmy and I'm appreciative for the fact that we have had the chance to step into the ring together and learn from one another in a competitive environment.
To idunbelieveincarryingballs,
Thank you for the support! I really really REALLY appreciate it. If you see me somewhere please holler out at me. haha. =)
Yo grake,
Hope you're enjoying life after NS! ORD already right? Awesomeness! =D
GAIJINU,
You're the man with all the info. I can't stand Singaporean newspapers. Boring substandard sports pages that only ever talk about soccer. And horseracing. And maybe golf.
To Joe,
Hey man you're never too old to learn something new. And trust me, 23 is nowhere near old. Look at the gyms page, there're quite a good number now. Like I said previously, I haven't been able to train at the rest of the gyms, so i wouldn't be able to give a good, objective recommendation. What i suggest would be to go down to the gym personally, if you have the time, to take a look see, and get a feel for the gym. Speak to the coaches and just go out there and start learning! Don't think too much! Just go ahead and give things a shot!
To Chokdee,
Haha I have to maximise my time out of the army!!!!
To KICKZ,
DUDE ALL THE BEST FOR THE CONTENDER!!!! I'M YOUR BIGGEST FAN!!
We're all right behind you! Haha!
Hey terence bro... Yup enjoying my life hahaha! ORD LOH! but still got 10 years of reservices NOOONOOO! tell me your new unit when you receive your posting results man! Hey bro, if your new units allow will wish to see you fight again!
Yes, SAF will allow you to fight if you are representing Singapore. You will have to provide your unit an official letter from your club, etc informing them of your participation. Shouldn't be a problem
hey terrence! dun mind me asking, but wad style of muay thai are u guys teaching at BXG? cos i stay pretty nearby and have wanted to learn for quite awhile but haven't found e time..
Hey Tyki Mikk,
Mmmm I find it a little difficult to properly answer your question regarding the style of Muay Thai that we teach at BXG Fitness.
Basically, like most of the modern gyms in Singapore and around the world, we teach Muay Thai that is applicable to the ring. We do not teach things like groin strikes or joint locking techniques that are not allowed within the ring. What you see in Muay Thai bouts are just about what you can expect. Elbow and knee strikes, kicks and punches are the name of the game.
I hope I've answered your question. =)
yo bro... so what units are you in now? great to see you post on this forum onces again.
Yo bro, damn low moral lately... When are you coming back for your training. Wanna spar with you some other time again... Hope I don't get my ass cream like the previous time you did to me! haha...
hey im 14 years old, n not so big( kinda skinny) u think i can take muay thai yet or shud i wait for a few years? cuz i really wanna start...
if u think i can, where do u think i could train?
thanks
im nt very sure if ull reply this but..........
what do u do with ur specs on fight day?
Gaijinu... you seen terence lately? nev seen him fought anymore since he enter NS.
lol, seriously? disadvantage to nt be able to see properly.
So now you are training at VBC ?
If I am not wrong, Terence has been an instructor at VBC for quite some time already
I heard that Zach is also a instructor there .
