Fights in Bangkok
i will be in bangkok next week (28 - 1 March). and i am hoping to get some advices on fight schedules at the various stadiums in bangkok. i went to the lumpini website but could not find any listing for next week. any suggestions? THANKS!
Thanks! I just sent him an email. Cheers!
sardean,
I remember there are fights everyday, EITHER at Rajadamnern or Lumpinee. I.e. if there's no fight at Lumpinee, there'll be a fight at Rajadamnern.
I very vaguely remember Lumpinee fights are on Tues, Thurs, Sat (but I'm very unsure 'cos I'm going by memory). You can easily get this info from the hotel reception (if they'll call for you), or ask taxi drivers or tour operators. But do not buy your tickets through tour operators.
I heard that if you go there a bit later, you might be able to get tickets at lower prices from the ticket touts. (Check the actual prices at the counter first, higher prices for farang). If you wear yellow and can speak thai, maybe you can get local price...haha!
Politicians and diapers must be changed often and usually for the same reason.
Some tips that might save you money:
At the bangkok airport, don't go downstairs to take the cabs, the cab entry into the airport is controlled by the local gangsters, and the drivers have to pay an extra toll to the gangs which you have to foot. Go to the arrival hall upstairs, and when the cabs drop the passengers off at the airport, wave them down and take that. The toll if you take the express highways is 40 or 65 baht, no more, some taxi drivers are dishonest and will "makan" some toll money off you.
At the stadiums, don't take the cabs directly in front of the stadium, cross the street or walk further down and flag down your own cabs, and make sure they're running by meter.
Try to get to the stadiums early, because at peak hour no cab driver wants to go by meter.

Ya and add on to the Kiatsongrit's reminder... Before you hop on the cab, remember to tell the driver your destination. BECAUSE if they can't send you there... they will reject you and ask you to get off their cab... So the moral of the story is : Tell the driver your destination 1ST, before hopping on to the cab...
Actually, I travel to lumpinee stadiam by train... It is pretty close to Suan-Lam NightBazaar just beside it I should say. Anyway, It is pretty easy to travel in Bangkok. It is a small country. You wouldn't be lost... Oh and like what Kiatsongrit says buy the tickets of the counter. Advise to get ringside seats with the ang mo, you don't want your cash to be mugged by the locals.
thanks all for the timely suggestions and advice. hell fighter gave me a great rundown of schedules at various stadiums!
I'm glad!!!

Thailand is a country, Bangkok is a city
you don't have to buy tickets from the counter, ask politely the people that come up to you out the front in the Red, Blue or Yellow jackets (3 different companies), if you do well, you may get a discount (doubt it though)... also, if you turn up late DOESN'T mean you'll get in any cheaper! I've heard of people arriving in round 4 of the Main Event (only 2 fights left after that) and paying 2000baht ringside
upon leaving the Stadium, walk out to the road, turn right and walk to the Lumpinee MRT (underground train) and grab a taxi from there
WORD OF ADVICE FOR TAXIS IN BANGKOK!!
when you get in make sure you write down the letter and number that is displayed on the plaque on the inside of the backdoors... in case the driver is rude, arrogant or you leave something, you can give this number to the Tourist Police and they can track the taxi for you
thanks for the travel tips! i'll be heading bangkok/chiangmai way come June, and it looks like i've been had in the past
Hellfighter and others have you heard of MTI gym in Bangkok? a trainer at Phuket told me to ask for 'Yim (Jim?) and trainers Lucky and Dum (spelling?)' apparently located in Soi Aonnuch, Phaweat. I'll be thankful for any advice/opinion!
I know of one trainer in OnNut area named Dum who was a trainer at a community based Gym in soi 93... around the OnNut area (and surrounds) you have Eminent Air, soi 93 & Ingram Gym (Japanese owned and run)

The only MTI I know of is the Muay Thai Institute at Rangsit run by Mr. Amnuay Kesbumrung. It's pretty easy to get to, just tell the cabbie to go to Rangsit. MTI is about 500m after Makro Rangsit (on your left) and is located behind the Siam Hotel and Night Stadium Disco.
However, AFAIK there aren't any trainers there named Yim or Jim. There's a Noi, Saner, Dang, Sawat, Boyd, Wat and two or three others I'm not familiar with. And of course, the great Ravee Dechachai. There USED to be an Australian trainer there named Tim but he left in December.
Do let me know if you decide to go.

Maybe you could write to Hellfighter http://muaythai.sg/user/131/contact and ask?
