Muay Thai isnt just about striking
For all who think tat MT is only a striking art, this is an interesting vid; scroll to 10:29 for some grappling action.
Might have seen Krabi Krabong demonstration but MT as grappling is still uncommon since the arena doesnt cater to tat....
Nice vid!
I think many modern sports martial arts have lost aspects of their fighting origins... MT not alone. Ground fighting is an essential part of fighting. If you have 2 ppl free fighting, sooner or later the fight usually ends up on the ground...
Good clip! and I agree, clinching is very technical and too bad it's not really used here. As for ground fighting, I prefer UFC
Some MT guy fight with grappling by MT technic.
Rambaa Somdet M16
he's lost all his crazy antics...looks quite different from his younger days, used to be very dark
Politicians and diapers must be changed often and usually for the same reason.
I like the "brrrr" he gives after opponent lands a kick on him and he will go crazy after that lol.

nice grappling and some cool part really like it...

Hey guys, just curious about some non-striking aspects of Muay Thai.
Is it true that for Muay Thai trainings, the grappling aspect of Muay Thai is only the clinch, whereby you can deliver knee strikes to your opponent by controlling his neck, hence body, and toss him onto the ground ?
Is catching of kicks, and then sweeping his standing leg allowed ? Or just by catching his kicking leg and then throw him to the ground ?
Thanks !!!

Yes, all are legal and allowed in the ring but the movement has to be executed fast, smooth and swiftly, the rule states - if you happen to sweep ur opponent and he/she didnt fall to the ground or you hold onto ur opponent leg without doing anything, the refree will break it up. As for clinching, yes, as you have mentioned, its straightforward as that

Muay Thai in my point of view definitely takes a very serious point of view at clinching or grappling. Where it is most of the time neglected in our country. Fighters go into the ring and bang with each other and when it comes to clinching, one of them will go mind blank not knowing what to do. Clinching is very technical and it definitely wears fighters out especially those that do not do alot of clinching / grappling during training. If you see thais' fight, there will always be a lot of technical grappling or clinching action, where they exchange beautiful knee strikes to each other. Even when you win in striking and you get dominated in clinching you will still lose the fight. alot of fights in thailand you can see online and when i watch fights at lumpinee, they can start clinching from the start of mid round 1 and to the end of the match.
Clinching and grappling is definitely important if you pursue the art of muay thai, never to be neglected during training.
