Hi all! Today's my first ever MT lesson, so I'm pretty much a noob here....

When we were punching the heavy bags with the gloves on, my wrists hurts real bad whenever the punches connected. Is it normal or am I doing something wrongly? Or maybe I'm getting too old for this......

Yup, probably will ask him next week. I just started with the beginner course at BXG.

Btw, does 'wrapping your hand' refer to how to clench the fist?

Hi, wrapping your hands is to protect your knuckle and wrist. Dont u wrap yr hands b4 training? Its one of the most things to know the proper technic of hand wrapping.

Your first lesson and you ve started hitting the bags??!! Puzzled Something is not right, anyway you need to wear handwraps first before punching bags or pads. Handwraps are special piece of long cloth that you wrap around your hands and they support your wrist muscles, (they resemble like a bandage)you may have slightly sprained your wrists on impact. Take it easy go slow.

Probably the punching angle is wrong, you're supposed to connect with the first 2 knuckles - and contract your muscles when you do Eye . Best way to find out is to ask the instructor.

Thanks for the advice! Our hands/wrists were not wrapped for the first lesson, so maybe that explains why.... Shall be going slow and check it out with the trainer this weekend then.

That definitely explains it. Put on your handwraps and then you'll feel the difference.

totally agree on using hand-wraps!!! also be careful, i "hurt" my wrist that never really healed and about 3 months later i found out i had actually dislocated it lol! it obviously wasn't that bad an injury, but i just thought i had sprained it - we need to take care of our bodies so now i REALLY protect my wrists!!!

Hi teelin, how training bro? I think u wrap between yg fingers abit too tight. Try loosen it a bit maybe it will help. Just make sure your hand dont turn blue when wrapping it..

I get cuts on my knuckles as well (that have now turned to scars!) from punching - even with wraps on...i don't think loosening my wraps will help that...any suggestions?

Try those handwraps that are a bit stretchy, I find them softer and easier/nicer to wrap. My old handwraps, the cloth is a bit rough (but more durable) so it tends to be a bit more abrasive on the hands (but I supposed that would be the last thing on everyone's mind when you're trying block punches and kicks from your opponents Green )
