CAN U STOP GOING "OOOEEIII" FOR ONE MINUTE? ITS FREAKING ANNOYING!
I noticed how some local fans like to make annoying noises when a fight is going on. They go oooeeii! oooeeeii! oooeeii! at almost any given chance. Im talking about excessive ooeeii-ing. Guess what? Its freaking annoying! Seriously, i know thai people do that but do u have to? Ur probably ruining another fan's viewing pleasure with ur irritating groans. Check out the videos posted on this website for proof. Gosh, whatever happened to "good kick!", "come on!" or just plain "yeaaaahh!!"? The world would be a better place without those silly sounds.
In fact, during the early days of muaythai in S'pore, MT matches would go on very quiet and then I remember someone or ppl critizing Singaporeans for not having the spirit of muaythai and yet wanting to promote the martial art across the country. "Oooii" or whatever is very part of a MT match & culture.
Adapt to it or tolerate it. I am afraid no one can help you. Personally I won't stop "Ooiii-ing" either.
If it so freaking annoying, you can wear ear plugs or totally watch a match with the volume down or dont attend matches at all.
i would not suggest wearing ear plugs or stop attending matches. i would highly suggest you to join in the fun of "OOOOOIIIIIII-ing" =) it rocks.
As a competitor point of view, you feel GREAT when audiences "ooooiiiiiii" at your kicks or punches. ![]()
Train hard,
Fight harder.
Personally, OOOEEEIIIIing sounds funny to me also though I have no problem with others doing it.
As much as I like Muay Thai, I dun think I will indulge in their dancing and OOOEEEIIIIing culture hee hee.
hmm next time buy us pop corn n drinks to keep us quiet yar, also dont forget to remind us off our HP. i rmb in previous post some one wanna fight me coz i cheering too loud for soren.. hahah
the world would be a better place if ppl stop complaining and learn about each other art culture..

Precisely!
Its all about personal choices, preferrances and common sense. If only Jokk think like you, rather then dedicating a thread to get everyone to stop making "noise" during a match, like the whole world will actually listen to him and "stop annoying him".
But thats ok, its been awhile since we have been entertained
yea sis, u can find in the return of contender threat. haha
anyway this is a very interesting thread.
Train hard,
Fight harder.
So if we dun oeei, why not we go
AAAaaaaaHHhhh...
like every kick is a release from the tension.
Of something shoved up where the light don't shine and taken out.
Providing relief.
Every kick or punch well delivered would deliver a soothing sensation.
CMON NAK MUAYS ! LET'S
Aaaaaaaaaahhhh!~
muay thai matches witout ooooeeeeiii, is just like hotdog without yr favourite choice of sauces. In football match fans sings ole, ole, ole and not twinkle2 little stars. In muaythai its the same,we prefer ooooeeeiii instead of aaahhhh cause things wont be the same if u say aaaaahhh. aaaahhh aaaahhh aaaahhh aaaahhh. Sounds not rite. ooooooeeiii! ooooeeeiiii! oooooeeeiii! tats better...
Keep your Heads low
Eyes high
Mouth shut
with A heart of gold
This should be a daily way of life.

Firstly people, this thread is my tongue in cheek take on local muaythai fans and not real criticism. So for those who actually got offended by this, sorry i forgot to put a smiley face at the end. Anyways i think u guys are missing the point. They key word here is excessive. Encouragement of any form is great but even too much sugar makes u sick and thats what im trying to say. Why not be more selective and cheer the genuinely good shots instead of cheering every single contact even if its some pussy kick =)
hmm ok noted : ).. erm actually we are encourging the fighters.. so .. u can dont bother about it.
lol tommy. who wanted to fight u just because u cheered too loudly for soren. ahaha
it's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog.
After watching this link, then i understand wat u mean Jokk..unnecessary oooeeeeiii...

just curious, if the fighter lets loose a quick flurry of punches, will the audience go "oei oei oei oei oei oei oei oei oeiiiiii!" LOL ![]()

First of all I'm gonna ask you not to use caps, it's not polite and against the rules.
Second, it's not about the thais are doing it so we have to do it too.
It's about the sport. Probably "come on!" would work on a cricket field when there are girls around.
The sounds you mention are meant to encourage and congratulate the fighters, especially the one who delivered a good kick or punch.
When watching quietly an opera or a play the spectators usually applaud the performance at the end. Or they also might ask loudly "encore! encore!".
When watching a football match usually the fans scream and sing and beat the drums for the whole 90 minutes of the game. Sometimes even fight.
I have no idea
what they do when people watch ping-pong or TKD, probably they go "just plain "yeaaaahh!!""
When Tiesto is spinning people jump up and down screaming and dancing.
I remember one of the earliest local amateur fights where the spectators were still in their infancy
, had no idea about this sport, rules, muay thai traditions, etc, etc. It was like watching a japanese movie about dead people. Quiet and cold. With the exception of one moron fat bastard from now the defunct combat academy who was screaming "kill him, kill him!"
when his buddy was in the ring, everyone else was ...zzzZZZzzz... Even the fighters were getting mellow by the 3rd round.
And look now! Every single fight - heart pumping, adrenaline rushing, this is muay thai! Of course the fans want to OOOEEEIIII !!!
This is what you do, sit quietly at the opera and scream OOOEEEIIII at a muay thai fight!
On a side note, I totally can't listen to the korean commentary when I watch the K-1 MAX fights on youtube. I don't know why, it just makes me angry with no reason LOL.
So I turn the volume down.
