Tiger Muay Thai (TMT) phuket, Thailand
has anyone been to this camp b4? it is in phuket, Thailand. if yes, can u share you experience here. pls and ty
yes just came from TMT last week.quite fun.
what is ur concern?
I think TMT website has comprehensive stated the stuff. Any questions? I know the fighters, trainer, boss, and supermart uncle well.
And how was it?
So how was it? How long did you train there?
It would be nice if you can post a review of the training, facilities, and trainers.
I stay there for about a week.
Facilities: the size of the camp is huge, consist of a eating stall, 5 to 6 boxing rings, lots of punching bags and 2 gym areas, fighters room, surrounded by a water shop, hi-card shop, minmart, spa and restaurants.
Training: 2 sessions per day, like warm up with running, skipping for 30 mins, followed by techniques, pad work (one to one with trainer), sparring, bag work, 100-200 sit up and push up. There are 4 training programs, basic, intermediate, advanced, and fighter. And they have different focus. The basic program is mainly on the standard punching, elbow …, and more on endurance and aerobic. Intermediate is mostly on combination, block and counter, more of techniques and strategy; Advanced is on the throws, counter, “cheating method..”, mental endurance; fighter program is for the fighters there. You can ask for a one to one private session with a specific trainer for extra cost. The muay thai techniques thought for the week are listed in order, tabulated, printed and pasted on the pillar in each area.
Usually every morning, I will look into the training schedule and decided which level I would like to go, what I like to work on. The trainers covered a broad spectrum, from retired, experienced and active fighter.
They only teach techniques that are useful in the fight and can score points. For example, they only teach “right spinning elbow”, not left which is useful in a fight, with respect to body dynamic, right stance”.
If you know enough, you can ask trainer privately on advice, like what I did.
People: They are many Westerners, one or two Singaporeans, Thai fighters there. And I make a lot of friends there. The trainers there are friendly. It is not like those military officers or teachers, but more like friends. I have some fun with them, it would be better if you know Sepak takraw, then you might ended playing with them on Sunday.
They teach Ram Muay on Saturday. This is the most difficult.
Lodging: They are fighter room and resort. I stay in the fighter room, which is a single bed, with TV, Wi Fi, Fridge (Lodging is better than the Uni Hostel!!)
Language: The office people know how to speak English well. Most Thai trainers can speak English well. But… some of them, can’t speak English that well, especially for the Fighters. Even some of the trainee, speak French, German, Dutch but not English well. I should learn Thai, French to cope with this language barrier, and then I can make more friends. BUT be ware, they may not know how to speak but they know how to listen. There are some Thai Chinese, but they don’t know how to speak Chinese.
Over all, the place is well-run, by Will McNamara and his trainer. Will McNamara is a web designer who settles down in Phuket, ten year ago. He is currently the promoter of Muay Thai in Phuket, he makes good web site and publication.
If you stay there for a month, you can get cert. Staying for 3 months is sufficient to get you into the fight ring. If you decide to become a fighter (more than 6 months ) you can get training and lodging at half-price, provided you fight for TMT. Following that is your talent, natural luck and capability.
They are many Martial artist, professional, dojo master there trying to pick Muay Thai to bring back to their country and camp.
There are Yoga, MMA, and bodybuilding there too.
I also managed to pick up some new Karate techniques from a Trainee there.
NICE write-up lokey!!!
Thanks, much appreciated!!!
Sounds great, I'm currently in the midst of saving/planning for a trip there next year. Got a dumb qns, do the trainers tend to play more attention to the angmos?
Cool!!!
I also have a dumb question..where is TMT? As in which part of thailand???

Nope, I don't think so.
TMT is located in Chalong, Phuket. At the south, east of Phuket, quite rural area, near the Phuket zoo.
If there is a beautiful girl (ang moh or not) they will definately pay more attention to her ... hahaha.... TMT is a really nice place.... they ve expanded recently ... id been there when there were 4 rings... i saw them constructing the new training area n all that... the website gives true and accurate description of the stuff thats happening there also look into the forum of their website, lots of people asking lots of questions... most of these popular gyms in phuket are crowded with non-asians mostly cos face it phuket is a big tourist destination and it has koh phi phi nearby haha....full moon anybody?
haha, anyone wan to go there this year(2010)? lets go together. haha^.^
Humm I am planning to go there again from 30 May to 12 June 2010.
how old are u lokay? which training package did u take? Regular Training? or the vip?
hummm... age is secret, cannot tell.
most likely regular? the cheapest one.

I'll be going this year but i'm still deciding between tiger and sinbi. My senior went to Tiger for his grad trip and he told us his clinching improved tremendously. My teammates recently went to Sinbi to polish up their techniques. Right now I'm favouring Tiger due to cost, but will go Sinbi if my teammates go there again.
Has anyone tried their MMA program? Any comments on the training??
Their MMA is ok... Not as strong as MT. You might be surprised that the masters in MMA are here in MMA Evolve, Singapore.
Thank you lokey... I'm actually a bjj guy picking up muay thai but I enjoy both. I'm looking for a gym which has lots of MMA sparring as part of training and according to their website, TMT offers such a package. I know fightg used to have sparring nights on fridays but not anymore...
haha I have the usual constraints regarding price with evolve but yes they have a impressive setup going...
how do they check if you are going to train in the beginner zone or the intermediate zone?
I bet the trainers will spot who can train where.
how do they check if you are going to train in the beginner zone or the intermediate zone?
beginner zone is focused on cardio and conditioning, it is good for slimming.
intermediate zone is focused technique and combination, on the bases that you know everything, you can tell the differences between having a "jab and cross" and "jab, jab and cross".
advanced zone is focused on the counter and refined fighting technique.
if you are preparing for fight, you should go to the fighter zone. they will tell you, your weakness and strength, and refine the skills for you.
Anyway the weekly schedule for each zone is up on the pillar, with each technique stated in black and white, so you can selective do what u want at what time. The gym manager is degree holder in business admin. it is pretty impressive you can find proper corporate management standard in remote area in Phuket. Every lessons, there is debrief.
sweet answer
nice one!

Hey Flamingsinex. I haven't been there, but i have a friend who trains there, and also know of a 2 really good fighters who are training there at the moment. will see if they can get on here and say something
