:bash: sorry to say, martial arts school in singapore is reali too expensive n nt quite worth compared to other countries..u end up payin more n learn alittle..does anyone noe of any self trainin gym? or any worthly n cheaper muay thai gyms here?? de self trainin gym tat i used to go is ting feng at geylang rd,nw alreadi closed dw..any gym still avaiable? 8-[ reali hope to see more gyms open up,put teaching on de 1st pirority n $$$ on de 2nd..
3eyeandy, martial art schools referring to which discipline? Muaythai? Tae Kwon Do? Most martial arts courses like TKD, Silat, Judo, Aikido, etc are dirt cheap and most are conducted in Community Clubs/ Centres. If you are talking about Muaythai, then you must know that these gyms have to pay high rents for their gyms every month plus they have equipments like punching bags, ring/s, protective gear and even exercise equipments for trainees unlike other martial art disciplines where they conduct their classes in open air areas without all these equipments. If you talk about other countries and their martial art fees, its comes in as cheap because of currency value. If you talk about training then you can look at the quality and level a MT instructors in Singapore has to offer. One is free to evaluate and choose and change their gyms anytime they want to. Its always advisable to train under a qualified professional so that you learn the right thing the right way and not pick up "bad practices or habits" in any martial art movement/s. Also, rememeber, if you want to pay less, you may get less and the least best in terms of quality instructors. You pay slightly more, you get to use all the equipments, qualified and experience instructors - value for your $$. So far, I see MT fees for most gyms in s'pore are rather reasonable considering the fact that most MT gyms here now have at least a professional and experienced fighter as an instructor
hi mystiq im referring to muay thai gyms in singapore..other martials arts lk tkd,aikido,karate,etc..they r nt expensive as muay thai..i check up alot of schools some of de fees was lk $250,$380, or even $420..n its onli teaching basic bro..i understand they find mani things to be concern abt such as rents,n equipments.maybe de students are nt as mani as tkd students so they have to charge per student some mininum fees to maintain their needs..i could understand tat..bt juz wondering y they cant cut down their fees abit to attract more students, becoz i haf frz who wan join muay thai too,bt considerin abt de fees.coz we lv martial arts,n we have to train life time or long term..if de fees juz keeps gettin higher bt value lower..mani ppl would rather save $$ to go fairtex n nt mani will wan to train here..coz thai is de best n most vlaue among all ;p do u haf any gyms tat is worth n gd 4 intro?
$380? $420? for basics? No kidding! thats a rip off!
Besides if they are located within town areas, I don't blame them and its kinda understood why fees can be so high , not forgetting that they are catering to certain group of people like expats and etc. Bro, there's so many gyms that you can choose from who offers extremely reasonable rates and the instructors are from native thailand or s'poreans who are extremely qualified and experienced in the art. The only thing is if you happen to be staying far away from these gyms, are you willing to travel? Travelling to and fro is always another main issue for most ppl.....If you re really keen to learn muaythai, PM me and I can recommend a few good gyms with good instructors with extremely good rates.
250,$380, or even $420 ????
How many time you get for training?
juz 8 session
I see, that why someone come to train in Thailand. It should be cheaper.
juz 8 session
Must be RTF
Im looking for a gym in town area. Any recommendation can PM me. all recommendation will be much appreciated. Thank you
tats is a gd one where i used to train is punch academy at mohamad sultan rd..i tink its a gd gym coz de instructor is quite experience..bt de fees nt cheap
Totally Agree. Gyms in Singapore are really very expensive. Or is it THE most expensive country to learn muay thai in?
Totally Agree. Gyms in Singapore are really very expensive. Or is it THE most expensive country to learn muay thai in?
Yeah, think about it - learning Muaythai in Singapore is indeed expensive
...Standard of living here is the main reason for all these fees, everything is a cycle
some countries lk japan or usa also do charge high fees 4muay thai..bt i tink they r different, coz their salary n $$ is bigger compare to ours..n basically every thing in singapore is goin to raise, infact keep raising nw n then..singapore is one of de most expensive country to martial arts,1st factor is due to de rental fees..wat to do?? ] (*,) government here talks $$ n benifit onli..if play ping pong i tink government support laaa, muay thai??
maybe 10more yrs than ppl wil support lolx..
i tink more self training gyms should be organise here..coz even when ppl cant reali take up muay thai classes, there should at least be a self training gym 4martial art lovers who can brush up their skills regularly there..de one i noe is at geylang rd..bt its closed!!! u noe y??
becoz of rental factors again!!! i spoke to de manangement sometime ago, infact a few times alreadi..bt he told me he is lookin 4 a cheaper place to rent,
been 4mths alreadi stil no news..more over nt mani ppl is bein supportive..wif me alone i cant do tremendous impact,i reali hope to find ppl who share de same goals n dreams wif me,2gethere we can convince de manangement to reopen it..n do sumthing 4de things we respected, loved n given passion 4..
so tat every SINGLE martial art lover who lv to train can haf a proper place to train!!!
try going to Bia's gym. for me, i dun think is very expensive. it cos $70 per 4 lesson in a mth.
mmmm yeah, what about instructors?
$70 per 4 session is expensive man.
I was wondering if any gyms have like unlimited training for a certain price and pay monthly or weekly.
Those who are serious about fighting would have to train nearly everday, dont they.
Thai fighters and fighters training in thai camps train twice a day and 6 days a week. Any of fighters in sg train nearly as much?
Guess thats why standard of the thai fighters are so high, they put in all their time into training.
Found out that Hilltop charges $60 a month.
3 sessions per week.
Thats nearer to cheap.
true caleb? the one at havelock road? 3 sessions per week huh.. hmm.. dats veri cheap.. or mayb its an opening promotion..
I was wondering if any gyms have like unlimited training for a certain price and pay monthly or weekly.
I just enrolled in suphanahong for the monthly unlimited S$200(i dont know if its cheap). Can attend the 3 classes(morning, noon, evening) every day 2hrs per session. And the guy said can stay inside and use the equipments while waiting for the next class. can sleep also if you want. There are 4 trainers i think (cant remember) or maybe 3. All of them are Thai people. They teach also lot techniques. But they dont have shower room so theres a free wet towel(smells good). Do you guys think its a good deal?
In Thailand MT training cost for one on one about 600 baht(1 US about 35 BahtThai)/2 hr
private class(4 persons/instructor)300 baht/person/2-2.5 hr
big class cost about 100-200 Baht/session but training quality will lower a lot
Well i think some gyms charge prices that are way too ridiculous i am not going to name it down here.Hmmm i am sure there are some ppl who are students and may want to train many times a week but wad if there are some who have to pay on their own? and they might not be able to afford to train rite?It seems like most gyms do not have student price for unlimited training
hiltop is cheap (for now) bt maybe price may change again..bt far also laa..if u onli train 3times a month then $60 is worth la,bt if u train lk 8 to 10times a month tat wil be diffferent..so far chepest mt gym is mac person,150 a month wif no limit,2nd suphanahong 200 per month no limit,bt i tink suphanahong stil de best, coz some trainers were pro mt fighters themselves,so suphanahong stil de best, more over its open by yodsenklai world mt champion, tink its worth laa

When you say unlimited meaning? Using the gym facilities everyday or the trainer trains you everyday? These are 2 different things.
so is caleb's post a typo? cos based on her post its $60 per mth, 3 times per week.. wic is basically 12 days in a mth for $60..
This is a good thread I think. As the discussion of prices of different gyms will help students know of alternatives and fair market prices, I think it'll benefit all practioners.
So please feel free to discuss and compare/contrast prices, number of times a week of training, quality of instruction, equipment, facilities etc.
Politicians and diapers must be changed often and usually for the same reason.
When you say unlimited meaning? Using the gym facilities everyday or the trainer trains you everyday? These are 2 different things.
For both FWA and Suphanahong, unlimited means that you can attend the group training everyday with instructor and you can also use the gym facilities everyday. I haven't trained at these gyms, but I personally went to each one to inquire about the training. Suphanohong actually charges $250 a month when I inquired a few months back. It's a good thing that they reduced the cost a bit considering that they don't have showers.
The key word is "Unlimited!" Meaning the more you train the more value for your money you get. heheheh! But let's face it, not everyone wants to train everyday. A beginner might do twice a week which is about 8-9 times a month. An intermediate might want to do it 3 times a week or 12-13 times a month. But I don't know of anyone who trains in the gym everyday.
I think that the $60 a month is only for Hilltop. "Hilltopthegym" charges differently.
try going to Bia's gym. for me, i dun think is very expensive. it cos $70 per 4 lesson in a mth.
The above you quoted are students rate but yes Bia's Gym has one of the most reasonable rates catering to both students and working adults, the only issue is travelling cos the gym is in Boon Lay place which to many others is quite far. Both instructors are from native Thailand - what more can you ask for
hi mystic unlitimited is meaning u can use de gym facilities everyday,bt no coach beside to teach unless they have class sessions..end of de day they teach twice a wk,so onli 8sessions of learning in a month..other than tat is on ur own..i tink most of de gyms nw has too mani regulations, such as u can go for lesson,bt cant use de gym facilities as n when u feel lk having extra trainin.sum is lk u can use it everyday,bt still onli 8sessions per month they teach u other than tat u r on ur own..juz too mani rules..i tink now is hard to find a reali 2tumbs up mt gym,coz its nt so popular yet lk other martial arts such as karate, tkd becoz so much diffence when u compare to them
bia's gym sounds cheap n reasonable,bt wil i be able to use de gym facilities? even when there is no classes..n wat r de facilites avaiable? i tink its gd tat we all discuss all tis topics,n make a comparision,n work out de best plans for each practioners ;p

While it is good to have a thread to discuss price rates and facilities and etc. Nothing beats having to go down personally to take a look at all these places and talking and watching how instructors train their trainees. One can also gauge the distance they'll be travelling too if they considered signing up. Do a proper homework and not take the easy way out I would say.

Yes, that is my understanding too. So what is it that you are looking for? Using gym facilities or training the art of MT?

Are you saying at Suphanahong gym, if I signed up $250 amonth, I can attend the group lessons everyday? Are you sure? If it is, then, its a freaking awesome deal cos it would mean, I get to train padworks everyday. FYI, there are many beginners and even others who would train everyday if given a chance but again $$ talks.

Wow! Mystiq you really are hardcore! The answer to your question is YES. They will give you pad works everyday, that is if you want to train everyday. I still have their card, I'll PM you their contact details.
For HilltopTheGym, they have monthly unlimited - $250 per month, but limit to 16 sessions for the class.. am not sure if this is a good deal..
besides that they also have another package which goes by no of session, so one session is around $20, its kind of expensive. but i have search around, this is the range that offered by most of the clubs..
If am joining 2 session every week, the fees will be $160 for one month.. its actually quite expensive for a poor person like me.... i think maybe i will stop sometime becoz of the $$... altot i kinda like MT very much..
I just called suphanahong and it's confirmed that they charge $200 a month.
I checked the cost matrix that I made last June they actually charge $200 then and not $250. I'm very sorry for the confusion guys, my bad.
This is in addition to what eaua said. According to the lady that I spoke to they are open everyday. You can train as many times as you like. They hold 2 hour lessons thrice a day. So if you don't have anything to do, you can train there everyday for 3 times a day. She also mentioned that you can use the shower at the owner's place or something.
So if you want to train everyday then you will be paying only $200/30days= $6.67 per day.
Then if you plan to take 3 lessons a day then it's only $6.67/3lessons= $2.22 per lesson.
Cheap!!!
So what are you guys waiting for go there and go kill yourselves. Hehehe! (This last part is a joke!)
I wish i have enough money so that i can train many times a week.If i had money i would have joined evolve

I noticed you rated FWA trainers a 3.8 and Suphanahong trainers a 4.0 compared to the rest who has a rating of at least 4.5/5. Could you share the reason why? Thanks. The rates and place may be good but without a good trainer, I'll not turn up instead I rather work with a solid trainer in a small, simple gym
"The rates and place may be good but without a good trainer, I'll not turn up instead I rather work with a solid trainer in a small, simple gym" - What I meant here was price rates.
Btw, how much u guys willing to spend for each mth for MT classes? $150~$200 is the norm?
I think some gyms just wan to make money and overcharge
Btw, how much u guys willing to spend for each mth for MT classes? $150~$200 is the norm?![]()
For me personally, I calculate fair rate per hour based on how much people in other fields make in an hour.
For example, let's say a relatively senior engineer with relatively long work experience makes $4000-$5000 a month. Maybe more, maybe less, but let's take $4000 as a benchmark. Let's say he works on average 22 days a week. That'll be $181 a day.
Let's say he works 9 hours a day, that'll be $20 an hour. I'm being very conservative because no engineer I know works 9 hour days regularly, it's more like 12 hour days and he gets paid no OT.
So for what he does, he gets paid $20 an hour. How much does a doctor get paid an hour? A teacher? An army officer/specialist? etc.
Then how much do I have to pay for muay thai training? I then use this to judge what I feel is a fair price to pay. Just my way of evaluating fair value, you might not agree, and everyone has their own opinions I suppose. Gyms want the highest profit for the least effort (assuming a pure capitalist model here of course, not every trainer is in it for money as first priority), students want most value and bang for their buck.
In the end, the one who gives most value per dollar to the customer, wins.
Politicians and diapers must be changed often and usually for the same reason.

where u stay bro?
l dont mind to have a partner to train with.
