building stronger and harder bone (help)
anyone know how to build harder bone?
anyone know how to build harder bone?
Are you talking about shin block?
Kick on the wooden board.

I believe you are refering to shin conditioning? Hit the punching bags, be it from your gym or if you own one at home. Daily practising of your round house kicks will condition your shins overtime. If you ask any thai instructor, they will say the same thing - hit the bags. PLEASE DO NOT kick wooden planks, wooden boards, lampost, metal poles, etc. You will frature your shins.

Yah there is a special wooden block from training this. I dont know its actual name. It is mounted on a pillar, with leather covering, and it is make out of several wooden layers. It gives a "Snap" sound when kick, but it is harder than the punching bag. After kicking the shin will be red. And the shin bone will harden over time.
Well dont use shin block, catch the leg and counter is a better technique.
I think kicking bags is the first step. Then once your shins are somewhat conditioned, practicing blocking drills with a partner without shin pads helps. Go lightly first, then progressively harder, but don't hurt yourself.
I see hanging tyres stringed up together in some thai gyms. They kick this, probably also for advanced shin conditioning. I've heard others using sand-filled bags (very hard).
Politicians and diapers must be changed often and usually for the same reason.
Aren't the hanging tires for punching?
Dunno bro, I've seen Buakaw kicking the thing in some videos of por pramuk gym. Maybe that's why he feels no pain in those K1 matches.

In olden times boxers kick the banana tree trunk for toughening the shins. Nowadays boxers use the heavy bag. Sand bags are too hard and will more likely injure than toughen u. Train on flexible bags of moderate hardness for best effect.
How to cure bruises on shin the fastest way?
First understand, the bruises are caused by the ruptured of blood vessels, leading to blood clog on the skin surface.
when you just get the bruises, use ice to prevent blood clogging.
When you get the blue-black bruises, use heat to promote circulation. hot-hard boiled egg is also useful to massage and help to remove the blood clog.
But why do you get bruises in the shin in the first place? I never got them before...
I was asked to demo a slow kick and my master was demo-ing a block and i got bruises on my right leg, after that, it's master turn to kick and my turn to block and that's how i get bruises on my left also..
kick "light" kick "light" control.
How to cure bruises on shin the fastest way?
rub with thai oil everyday? during shower spray hot water over the area, apply some soap then rub to clear the clots away.

Thai oil? The want that will get hot after applying? Where can I get it?

Actually I think its the rubbing that helps, not so much what oil you use. The oil probably only serves as a lubricant so you don't rub your skin off. You can also use Zambuk or any chinese medicated oil.
Good thing about the thai oil is that you can also use it before/after training, so only need to keep one type of oil in your training bag.

Have you all heard before that got one guy say if you dun know is break or what to your bone, it will become stronger after it's heal. Some sciencetice say de. Anyone of you heard b4?
hair line cracks???
It is true that breaking your bones and letting them heals hardens your bone. Or rather, the healing stops after 2 or 3 consistent breaking. Your body fills those cracks in your shin with calcium. Do note that your 'shin' hardly feels anythng from them onwards. Technically you are a handicapped person. Which entitles you to enter aeroplane earlier than anyone else. But is that what you want?
Kiatsongrit is right. You can start firt with punching bags to condition your shin. Slowly increase the toughness from the inside of whatever you are kicking. Since we are not warriors from the passed, it's always recommended to have a minimum padding on whatever you are kicking. It conditions your shin but greatly reduce the risk of cracking it. ![]()

I sincerely hope that this discussion stays here and not get senseless people out there to intentionally break their shin bones just to condition them and to feel painless. I have never heard that when a bone heals, it gets harder or painless after that. What I logically know, when a bone or ligament breaks/torn and after it has been healed, its strength can never be the same like how it was originally before. Also, how many thais have you seen or heard actually break their shins just to condition them??
I have asked my MT instructors before and all of them have said that it is natural to feel pain. Every individual has their own unique pain tolerance. In fact, the thais are never bothered about pain, they hit the bags for stamina and muscle conditioning and speed. Thru this process, their shins get conditioned at the same time.
PS: In any martial art, there are no short cuts, do learn and practice your techniques the right way.
Thanks=)

Why not, it's been quite entertaining
Imagine this:
"OK, say first, today after work go where and chiong?"
"No lah, cannot, must break my shin first!"
I have been practicing shin block with my training buddy where he will kick and i will block with my shin.
Every time after the training, my shin will have bruises *there won't be blue black but it hurts inside*, is it common?
I am scared that when i grow old, there will be rheumatism or some problems.
I drink HL milk frequently and that is where i get my calcium from.
Add on, does drinking milk really help in building strong bone?

Yes, of course its very painful. Don't tell me you practise using force?! No, it shouldn't be that way. Even the thais who practise with us, use either shin guards or if without shin guards, they will delibrately face their shins up (towards the ceiling) so that the practising opponent shins touches the softer part of the leg. The idea of practisng leg blocks is not for conditioning shins, practising leg blocking are drills so that in future, your blocking movement becomes a reflex.
Our body needs calcium (for bones, teeth, etc) and a great source of it is easily available as "milk". There is no such thing that drinking more milk conditions shins. But drinking a moderate amount of milk daily for general health is a good and too much of anything is a big NO NO. So please, dont drink milk till you "lau sai". Besides, I am sure you can google up on milk and its effects on the human body.
I don't have shin guards..
What my buddy and i will do is that he will kick and i will block and BAM! The impact..
Milk is nice
Amen to mystiqs comment. Milk has multiple god effects on our body. One thing for sure, it does not go in relation iwth harder bones. Healthier yes, but conditioning shin? Sounds like a scam to me D: Bottom line, shin guards please guys! We are not fightng war with our muay thai skills!
P.S If i'm right, LATTE is LATTE because of the milk you rink so extensively? You're originally expresso right!

i dont think you are supposed to be training at full force.
To be the best potato, you must first be a true potato.
@ mingneh; haha
@ fightingpotato; i don't know.. trying to simulate a match?
Hirudoid cream helps get rid of bruising very fast. Works for me
erm just wna ask. my muay boran training actually toughen up our shin by using bamboo and slowly hitting it on the shin bone. or baseball bats. but with little force. they bang the shin till the "kock koock kock kock" sound can be heard and after that we're instructed to apply die da jiu and drink milk daily is it corrrect?
where do you learn muay boran from?
self taught

No, its not correct besides traditional muay boran practioners in thailand dont use bamboo from my knowledge. I can confirm that in the olden days, I doubt very much that tradional muay boran practioners actually own baseball bats!!
And about the discussion of milk, pls read the above thread as it has been discussed before.
kick bag and pad work. day by day your shin will condition
oh thanks! and not only that we also kick banana trees. Hitting shin with bamboo is wrong? nad we have another weird way which is un thru shallow water
die da jiu
my ajarhn has done that conditioning with me and it really works! after that he hits some herbs in a pack and rubs it on my shin slowly
Speedblitz, if your arjhan has taught you to "condition" shins , then why are you asking if its the correct way?
These methods are long gone and besides you were supervised by an ajarhn and thai herbs were readily available in your case.
In the old days, there were no punch bags so the thais kicked young banana trees which are "soft" to their shins. When punch bags were introduced, kicking young banana trees slowly phased out over time. The thais were never bothered about conditioning their shins, they were concerned about their strength training and stamina. When they kicked banana trees, their aim is not to condition their shins, their aim was to bring down the tree if possible.
Today, in thailand, 99% of the MT gyms have punch bags and all their top fighters do not kick banana trees, all of them use punchbags. If you ask any thai instructor, they will say the same thing - hit the bags. Its a tried and proven method over the decades and besides any thai will tell you that pain is inevitable.
Kicking drills helps alot also.
Partner up with someone your own weight or closest to your weight,
one person kicks other person checks, and vice versa.
Start with shin pads but kick with about 50% power then slowly increase the power if you both think you can handle it.
Then can progress to without shinpad.
Really do help alot.
Try it out!
oh thanks cause i'm training really traditionally
Hey, as long as it works, it's good!
