good find deadrop, but don't fill it with sand, that's a exageration there, use old cloths. I'll let you imagine what will happend with sand and moisture in a bag.

try the army surplus stores at beach road, look for "ali baba" bags. It's been so many years since my NS days, I can't really remember how long Ali Baba bags are, but I think they're around 1.5m long, should make a nice bag.

They're canvas though, so you might need to wrap some duct tape over the parts you want to kick, or it'll be tough on your skin.

I don't speak Singaporean, that's what I mean!!!

as for the bag thingo, exactly what I said... make 2 bags, 1 for low techniques and another for waist and above techniques and hang them accordingly beside eachother

some Gyms make their own, but most buy them

hmm so did anyone actually made their own bag? i got a spare "ali baba" bag which i prob might try to diy with.

problem is how much space do you need? e.g. to hang up the bag, and leave room to kick and punch? I was thinking of hanging it up at the chinup bar at my door, but on 2nd thoughts, i won't have any room to kick (prob could only execute push kicks).

If u guys seriously made a bag heavy enough for kicking it'll be like 50-80kgs ?

1) Where would u gather so much old cloth if buying them from the junk yard won't the addition of transportation cost a fair bit ?

2) If the bags are indeed 50-80kgs self made, U might spend more getting a contractor to hang it up for u

3) if its too light then theres no point U can get china made ones for $50-80 from mustafas

So why bother making ur own bag when u can go down to ur gyms off training hours and do ur own bag work ? Either that or the effort of making the bag would be alot more than just buying a 2nd hand PVC bag perhaps.

hahaha i thought i was the only one thinking of using a spare ali baba bag as a heavy bag for training.

this thread comes in good time.

ali baba bag (army duffel bag):

i might check out mustafa's for the $80 ones. might take me ages to fill the ali baba bag up with old cloth. not sure i have that much to spare or that much time to source for some.

i might also hang it from a wrought iron stand meant for rattan swings. anybody knows anyone with an old wrought iron stand lying around collecting dust?

ps: i have two army duffel bags. don't ask me how i got the spare one Sticking out tongue let me know if anyone wants it.

i agree with most of the stuff yakuza has raised, except the last part. haha it definitely makes a difference to have a bag at home.
If you fill your bag with sand, its gonna be real ugly when there's moisture. But if you get find perfectly dry sand (best bet: construction areas?) you can perhaps seal it up with some kind of airtight, waterproof bag before placing it into the alibaba bag or whatever. haha and the wrought iron stand ain't gonna work very well - doubt it can hold weight for long / give good balance

Hi
Got myself a 36inch punching bag for home use. Most probably good for punching only. I think i'm not hanging it properly. Can anyone tell me how high off the ground should the bag be? Better if you can tell me at which part of my body should the base of the bag be, when i'm standing next to it?

Thanks

That's a 3 ft... yeah, it's good for punching and high kicks, should be hanged so the top is a bit higher than you so you could do elbows as well.

What about using rice grains? Sticking out tongue
or if you want to use sand, mix it with rice grains, it absorbs th moisture. Party!
