Hi everyone, I came across a website of this Muay Thai gym called Impakt Singapore(Academy of Mixed Martial Arts). The gym offers classes for Muay Thai, BJJ, Kyokushin Karate, Krav Maga, Savate and Western Boxing.
Has anyone been training there ? If yes, hows the fees, facilities and trainers ? I am curious to find out as the website seems cool :-k
P.S The spelling is correct. I don't mean "Impact MMA", the MMA gym @ Shenton Way.
Thank you very much !!!

The rates are in their website. Yeah, seems like a cool place, besides their unlimited class are at $250 per month.....the most reasonable rate so far among the MMA gyms in Singapore. :-k
The Ring is my Battlefield!
Looking for Bo Liao people!!
People HATE my guts!!!
$250 a month? Wow....I wonder who the instructors are?
Isn't Evolve's fees around there as well? Unless they have some world class trainers and facilities, it'd be really hard to justify that kind of asking price.
Politicians and diapers must be changed often and usually for the same reason.
Haha yeah, the price is steep. Similar to those Fightworks Asia, Hilltop The Gym and Evolve MMA.
I heard that Ajarn Sa Ming, who used to teach @ Suphanahong MT Gym, is a trainer there. Well, the price of unlimited class package to me @ Suphanahong MT Gym is quite steep too

its the sister gym of Impakt Hong Kong which is home to people like Ekapol and HW Champ Alain Nglaini (spelling?)
Yea just drop in there today. Its a new gym with a sister gym in Hong Kong. Benefits of a new gym are:
-less crowded classes aka more attention
-new equipments, nicer and cleaner mats etc
-awesome awesome facilities (by that I mean really good stuff like quality showers with hot water!!! and misc stuff like cold water cooler)
-clean everything
-the muay thai used to be from fightworks, not sure of his name though but is very good and nice, knows simple conversation english too
Not sure about mma classes though cos I went for muay thai only. Hopes this helps!
the trainer is Saming... hes originally from Petchyindee gym Bangkok and was Sam-A's trainer - Sam-A was 2x Lumpinee and 2xThailand Champion.......
yeah, IMPAKT SINGAPORE (ACADEMY OF MIXED MARTIALS ARTS & crossfit)is a new gym in singapore, brother of the hongkong one (www.impakt.hk).
the singapore branch has world class instructors like eric the " co-founder" former french boxing champion with 9 year experience,he is the little brother of the 2times world champion alain "the panther" ngalani from hongkong.
also the popular AJARN SA MING is the head muaythai coach over there.
so i think everything is worth it!!!
When i Checked the schedule of impakt, there were alot of blanks. Are those blanks open gym or something?
$250 a month is expensive! The other Impact (at Shenton Way) unlimited package starts from $179 for adults and $92 for students for unlimited. Fight G is $115. Juggernaut is $150-$220 range too. Evolve I think is about $300+ the last time i checked but they don't publish their rates.
I think the plus for this gym are nice new facilities. Not a huge place, but it's quite new. They seem very Muay Thai based. They have a BJJ coach, but I don't think they are affiliated to any of the big BJJ names like Atos, Alliance, Checkmat, Nova Uniao.... The mats and set up is very new and clean. Looks very nice!
In a nutshell, I think it's a nice place to train with some decent Muay Thai. Don't think they've produced any MMA fighters locally. Gyms like Juggernaut and Impact have been regularly competing in the MMA scene. So I think it's prob more a Muay Thai gym with a BJJ coach present. Not a dedicated MMA gym.
I think it's important to see what your focus is when trying out a gym. Then see if that gym's focus fits yours. Sometimes it's tricky. If you remember Stable MMA, they started out selling themselves as an MMA gym and affiliated to Ralph Gracie. Now I they don't have a BJJ or grappling programme anymore. They just teach Karate and Muay Thai.
haha, Cobra123, you sound a bit like you are advertising! You only have 1 post and it's a bit er.... Hhehe.
Eric is a champion of zero and couldnt teach anyone to fight - ask for his fight credentials and proof...he teach's flicky kickboxing....he has zero idea of Muay Thai - seriously if you think he is 'world class' you are on Crack cocaine..
.... Saming is no longer at Impakt....
the other Impakt - Impact is affiliated BJJ wise to CheckMat.... however I dont believe its Muay Thai is all that....
hey diesel, any idea where's saming's new gym? or any info on saming's new gym?
there is a chance he may be back at Impakt for a while...some issues ongoing....so right now he isnt at another gym... will keep you in touch as facts emerge..
Thanks! He keeps telling everyone he's gna open his own gym soon.
now wouldnt that be a good idea
i would watch this space for information
i am saying no more
Agree with Diesel. I've trained for 2 months under Ajarn Saming and have nothing but massive respect and love for the man. I've learned and improved so much that when I spent the last 2 weeks for casual training at Petchyindee in BKK, the trainers there (mates of Ajarn Saming) were surprised that I've only recently picked up the sport.
Impakt has a new Thai trainer now, real nice guy. Not an awesome pad holder like Ajarn Saming but teaches good clinching techniques which I heard is sorely lacking in most gyms in SG.
RE: Ajarn Saming's new gym, I keep in regular contact with him and roughly know where it's gonna be but lets keep it on the down low till we have more confirmed updates from the man himself.
the new guy is as put 'nice' and an average pad holder at best. he is accompanied by another guy who i believe is an MMA fighter...he isnt a thai boxing coach though... and certainly isnt anything close to either Saming or Poonchai in terms of coaching, technique. pads
To be honest, anyone looking to do serious muay thai should steer clear of impakt at the moment.
please keep this post updated of Ajarn Saming's new gym. thanks Diesel
well thats not strictly true...re: serious Muay Thai.... you could always train with me there...but to be honest I dont have a huge amount of time and I only do privates with fighters or those who actually wont to listen and learn. hahaha
dont worry its not a pitch for business... until Saming opens his place we return to the mediocrity that is Singapore Muay Thai - if you are there when I am I will happily help or show you a few things, but i am there to keep in some resemblence of fitness/focus.... however i cant help but try and help especially when people are doing something wrong.... the American guy has no muay thai at all, just boxing and a low kick...holds his hands all wrong for MT - the Thai can hold pads for basic stuff but he isnt super focused on correcting... its ok if you have some experience but if not then its a struggle.... i wanted to tell them both to stop and just take over the class myself...
I went for a free trial for Muay Thai at Impact MMA last night and I was quite unimpressed. I'm not sure who the instructor was, but it was not Bruce.
We started off doing about 15 minutes of cardio, which was good enough to get the heart going - jumping jacks, sit ups, push ups, high knees, etc. We then paired up with a partner and practised various basic combos for the half hour. Then it was pad work (except here the students hold the pads) and in our case since we were "new" we just hit the heavy bags and practised combos on that. Not once did the trainer pick up the pads for us to hit. During this whole time we were there, i would say there was almost no attention paid to us correcting our technique. After that we went into the ring and practised a little bit of footwork, how to move around when stuck in corners, which i suppose is quite useful but i didn't get to practice it much.
Sad to say it wasn't the best Muay Thai experience I've had and I'm glad they offer this free trial. I understand that Bruce is their best Muay Thai trainer, so my review might be fairly harsh on them and the training could be different when he's around, but unfortunately there's only one free trial and based on my experience it failed to impress.
I have not tried the Muay Thai classes at Impakt but I'll definitely be trying it out at some point.
You are next!
well Impact has Leke who is a good BJJ guy, but his MMA standup is awful....so that says a lot about the level their... I might pop down and have a look though see if I can help....
Pad workd with partners is good if someone explains how to hold the pad and in big classes is useful as everyone improves - however its difficult if no one bar the instructor knows how to hold...
Yeah I've trained with Leke... He's definitely not a standup base guy. He's been working hard recently though, but I think he's more a boxing guy than a MT guy.
Impact MMA's head coach is Bruce. He's pretty good. I know Bruce has trained many of Impact's guys who won trophy's at some of the AMAS events. I went down to watch previously. I've not done much Muay Thai there to be honest, but I know the other pretty good coaches are this Thai guy Aof who used to be from Supanahong (but he's not full time, I only see him once every few months), Royston (who also is mainly MMA background but very good striker), Garie (but I heard he is overseas these few months), Juan (he is a One FC MMA fighter whose background is in Muay Thai-but he has been injured recently).
Diesel, Bruce told me they are looking for trainers to help out there because they are low on manpower due to injuries and some trainers being overseas. Maybe you can drop them an email to offer your services!
Ghosstar, you probably got a stand-in coach, I've seen some of them and they aren't too great.
Diesel,I will be very glad to train with you and learn more whenever you're down at Impakt. And i'm happy to be thrown around in the ring if you can teach me more clinching!
The whole situation with Ajarn Saming leaving really throw a spanner in the works, man. Its like a bad breakup; I've even started eating Ben & Jerry's at night!!
Why continue to training at Impakt when you think you can run the class better then the trainers there disel?
LOL I think everybody who has trained overseas at any point in their lives would ask themselves the same question everytime they step into a a "fight" gym in Singapore.
In my view 4 out of every 5 gyms here are hype-jobs with bogus marketing. An example is demonstrated in this article: http://www.thefightnation.com/heres-our-list-of-the-top-10-mma-gyms-in-asia/. It lists JFC as a top fight gym in ASIA. Now I think JFC's a very ballsy gym who have made the effort to put themselves above the other SG gyms. But I don't think I need to explain why this article cannot by any objective criteria be accurate.
The thing is, you have to train somewhere. I really sympathise with anyone who has a passion for combat sports living in Singapore. Quality instruction for the most part, simply does not exist... so you train where you feel the most comfortable.
...because they have some good bags, i can train myself a bit and I also teach some privates to a few select people where using a proper ring is important - espcially as one will be returning to the ring later this year (but in thailand / aus or back home - not yet decided)
I could teach a class better than anyone really in Singapore - not because I am arrogant but even the best Thais train 1 on 1 - I used to teach anywhere from 6-40 students every evening in London and its a very different job teaching and motivating
spot on with the analysis.. Singapore is a hot bed for bogus marketing ...I mean people lick ass here soooo badly. Singapore is an awesome place but lets get real who has emerged as a top fighter? so why the ego - purely as its all about $$$$$ and hype. Best coach in the World and Top Gyms in Asia.... pleaseeeeeeeeeee someone has paid for some hot marketing. The problem is - no fight scene - super high costs to setup a good gym, and so its a difficult thing. The best bet would be to run a club from a top fitness gym - ie put bags and a ring in and be associated - then you get the paying members to finance the fight team - a bit like Evolve do.... although a little different. Anyway I have trained many champions (from Area to World level both male and female. Also K1 style (National level) and striking for MMA so I am very confident I know what I am doing - but trust me if you have spent 4 weeks in thailand or trained in Aus or the UK or France then you know the gulf in difference between what real training and instruction is - and what Singapore really offers behind the unbelievable amount of hype that surrounds every single fight gym here
id like to do something like a Sunday session for guys who have some experience so we drill some combinations (but more fight focused) - obviously work on improving but the basics should be there, some sparring and also clinching - but both of the last two done properly not just windmilling, proper scoring techniques but with some power also....
diesel, I would be keen.
I've trained at impakt for a month, 2-3 sessions/week.
But I still can't seem to figure out who you are.
Noel is my name .... i am probably the biggest guy you have seen there
Hey diesel, i dropped you a PM. Let me know?
replied
Alright checked my inbox, nothing there. Whats wrong with this forum?!
Can you let me know your personal email and I'll message you there instead?
noel@dieselgym.co.uk
you can ask on here unless its personal to yourself... as you can tell i am pretty open about stuff
If you're at the gym tomorrow afternoon, lets train together. The ring is massively under-utilised.
ok sure, not sure if I have had the pleasure... I am always looking for people to spar - but unfortunately for me there is hardly anyone in Singapore to make it worthwhile.... i,e same weight and with experience...
hahaha. i'm looking to learn and pick up tips; wont me much of a sparring partner for you. I'm 58kg; as flyweight as it gets!
