What have you learn tru Muay Thai?

Hi guys, I'm very keen in knowing what you guys have gain tru muaythai and how did it help you?

Ever since I started learning Muay Thai, I gained alot of discipline, I tend not to hurl much vulgarities, because during training, hurling vulgarities is certainly a nono.. people who are training in the same room with you will have a bad impression of you.. I gained confidence, that I'm able to help myself if I'm being attacked. And best of all.. My temper is alot better now because I can vent my anger on the bag.. yet still gaining some benefits from bagwork.. so its 1 stone kill two bird.. I really love Muay Thai ever since it helped me so much, and of course am proud to be a Muay Thai practitioner.

Not only I gained better fitness.. It helped alot on my studies also.. because the discipline I gain from Muay Thai makes people respect me.. Its like.. why the hell should I neglect studies and be a gangster to be "respected".

So in short.. one major value I gain, is DISCIPLINE.
Not forgetting I made alot of friends Smile

Cheers,
Pietrek Smile

i've yet to learn how to skip.

for me, it's pretty much the same as you, pietrek.

a while ago, we had a family gathering. we do it quite often when most of us happen to be in town.

and a few of them were like, wow you look great! muay thai really does you good.

it's not just the muay thai classes, it's also the self-training i do on the side both in muay thai and personal fitness.

it's a personal goal. i'd like to think i'm well on my way to achieve my short term goal of reducing my body fat percentage to 14% by the year's end from its current level of slightly lower than 20, which is urgh.

i can then focus on honing my muay thai skills fully at the start of 09 to achieve my mid term goal, which is to enter the ring for a fight or three.

i think the most common way nowadays is through an electrical impedance test. they send a harmless electrical current through your body and via a series of amazing calculations they compute your body fat %. not too sure about its accuracy and precision though.

u step on a weighting machine like thing and look straight till it beeeps.
when it does. it gives u ur body fat % index.
easy as that,
ive heard ure about to get your index from calfornia fitness for a small sum of money.
but for me. i weighed in and got my index at my own personal gym for free.
my fat index is about 7% or so.

actually i found out my body fat percentage using a machine too but i think it's just me being lazy. checking for this is different as compared to checking for ones BMI. it shouldn't be done on machines.

the proper way to do it is more complicated as you can see here.

says there: When it comes to tracking weight loss, most of us rely on the scale to tell us whether we've lost or gained weight. But, as people are fast learning, this isn't the best way to keep track of your weight. A scale measures everything including muscle, fat, bones, and what you ate or drank that day. It doesn't tell you what you really need to know: how much fat do you have?

one of these days, i'll do a proper check on myself using the proper tools and method.

Even though I'm not a fighter, most basically should be discipline and perserverence.

I got so motitvated by malaipet when he skips.
So i started to skip at some multi storey carparks inorder not to smash up things in my room Blum 3
Yea, at first it kinda sucks, getting whipped all over, but its so fun when you can like "dance" with a skipping rope Biggrin
Yea, after taking up muay thai, i lose like 15kg.
From a 90kg guy filled with stack of fats, to a 74kg guy.
But i'm still quite flabby though, wanna get more tone up Biggrin
I didnt realise doing bagwork can actually tone up the upper part of your body.
Well at least, muay thai help me to get rid of the dark fact of being fat for the 17years of my life :hysterical:
