I heard something about someone pulling out from my weight division. I understand if it's a novice, not fair to fight someone who already fought before. But if the other guy has already been in the ring before ( I have 4 fights) for a few times, I don't understand why not use this opportunity to get some ring experience. It's not too often my weight class has two or more participants!
One should not look at how many KO's the other has, I think this weight class most of the fights end in KO. I'm sure that the other guy has KO's too if he has ever been in the ring. Also one thing, I never have seen any list of fighters before the weigh-ins, I wouldn't know to pull out if Wanderlei Silva should participate! I wanna see also two weeks before who is my opponent! Where can I go and snoop around next time?
I'm sorry if I'm stepping on somebody's toes here, I don't mean to make anybody angry or guilty or anything. Just Imagine this scenario: You really want to be a Thaiboxer. You train and you train. Then you hear rumors that there is a fight coming up in a couple of months! You get this tingling feeling, you keep thinking about it and step up with your training. You maybe skip some pool parties and company dinners, go running instead. You watch your diet, maybe try to shred some kilos. Then you hear the fights are postponed to some undefined date in the future. Maybe one more month, maybe two... Ok, I'll try to stay fit, can maybe order a pizza on sunday and have a beer or two with friends. Time passes until you hear it again> There is two tournaments coming up, next month and the next! Everybody get ready, this is going to be BIG!!! You start again, starving yourself and your relationship. You're either working, training or watching fights from youtube. Until you hear it's postponed again. Maybe SIX MONTHS go by, maybe A YEAR!! And when it finally comes, the big day, all the people in your weight class have disappeared, no fight for you my friend, next time then.

I think I'm going to f***ing change to online poker.

I also want to know, didn't know about this coming fight until about two weeks before, totally no time to prepare. Could the organisers announce events earlier (say 3 months before) next time?

Must ask gaijinu on how to snoop, he's the expert on getting the latest news.

Antti, they should send you to Busan to represent S'pore, it'll be a waste if you can't go just because you can't find a competitor in your weight cat.

I find this Busan thingy a very last minute event. Is it? Having said that, surprisingly, they are still alot of competitors rearing to go this sunday. Was it an internal upcoming event kept underwraps till the last minute or what, I really do not know.Anyone care to comment. Dirol

Thanks for highlighting this! These are some of the exact issues a lot of genuine people are facing here. Its sad and very annoying! I wish we were like the Thais, they can face their opponents naked in the weigh in and are not threatened by who they are fighting irregardless of who's record is superior. When they are in the ring, they do their ultimate. Here in S'pore, we have a "cannot lose face "culture. When ppl see who they are going to fight with , they withdraw. People want to know who they will be fighting with not to study their strength and weakness but to see if the match is a worthy one, if not "dont waste time" kinda attitude.

That is why I dont blame certain practices here. They do separate weigh ins and on the fight day itself, they reveal the contenders. This is currently praticed by the "All Martial Art" competition that takes place locally here every alternate year end.

In fact, gyms should come up with some penalty on fighters like these who withdraw giving all sorts of reasons. So much training focussed on them and at the end, they freak out. Also I am aware instructors have a part to play in this as well, they find out who the potential opponent for their students are and advise them, "dont waste time". I have seen this before.

Ok, just got confirmation and I'll answer the PMs here: If you want to fight, but you don't train at any of the assoc. gyms or you don't know muay thai at all, you can't. First, join a gym.
If you don't see your name on the fight card, very sorry, but it seems they couldn't find an opponent for you, check with your trainer for more details.

Can someone tell me what time is the semi-pro fights roughly be?

I'll be going to my gym to watch friendly fight with lana gym in the afternoon... so it would be good if I could rush down from my gym to youth park to catch the "highlight"

thanks
