Boxing Boys

Boxing Boys! is the world's first non-verbal theatre performance that innovatively blends the lethal and graceful martial art of Muay Thai (Thai kickboxing) with energetic street dance, physical comedy and delightful romance.

Conceptualized, directed and co-choreographed by Ekachai Uekrongtham (www.facebook.com/ekachai.u), internationally acclaimed film and theatre director of Beautiful Boxer an...d Chang & Eng - The Musical, Boxing Boys! is a unique and inventive performance that does not rely on words but uses visual, physical and musical elements of the production to tell a charming story of how two young men -- a robust professional kickboxer and a mischievous street dancer -- fight to win over the younger sister of a Muay Thai Master.

Breathtaking, entertaining and ultimately moving, Boxing Boys! stars real-life kickboxing champs, prize-winning street dancers, sportsmen and martial arts experts -- culled from extensive nation-wide auditions in Thailand. The 17-strong cast performs live on stage in this highly physical, adrenalin-packed show which, in addition to showcasing awe-inspiring Thai kickboxing squences, also incorporates stunning Thai sword fighting as well as intricate movements inspired by Khon (Thai masked dance), Likay (Thai folk dance) and Nang Yai (shadow puppets).

Join Boxing Boys! on an exhilarating and colourful journey through lives in a Thai boxing camp. Witness the fun and the battles when the boisterous B-Boy dude decides to train to become a kickboxer to get close to the feisty girl he's smitten with. Take a peek into the kickboxers' communal bathroom as they join forces to destroy a small but vicious little "enemy". See what really goes on in a weigh-in room at a boxing stadium. Discover the origin of Muay Thai, a 500-year-old martial art designed to turn various parts of human body -- fists, elbows, knees and feet -- into deadly weapons during wartime. Catch the powerful bouts between the kickboxers and their menacing opponents -- in and outside the ring. Along the way, romance develops, friendship is earned, sacrifices are made and the men from two different worlds learn a thing or two about honour, love and what really keeps them rooted.

A Scenario Thailand production, Boxing Boys! is executive produced by Takonkiet Viravan.

What the Press Says:

"A non-stop joy ride of fun! Masculine! Meaty! Meaningful... The zero-fat actors are real balls of fire! Juxtaposition is the charm of the show. The music creates multiple layers of profound meanings." - Bangkok Post

"Exhilarating! Entertaining! Moving... Impeccably harmonizes combat art with dance moves. A thrill to watch! The fight scenes are breathtaking!" - Season Magazine

"Excellent performance by a superb cast! Has greater story depth than 'Jump'. A perfect blend of Thai martial arts and Western performance styles." - Bangkok Today

"Real punches! Real fights! Real six packs!" - Modernine TV

"Studded with music, dance and pulsating action!" - The Hindu

"A show that sizzled with six-pack bodies and high voltage energy! Spectacular fight scenes accompanied by street dance sequences, traditional Thai dance movements and even body percussion! A rich cultural potpourri... does not need language to touch the pulse of an audience." - Prestige Magazine

"Riveting! Fascinating! Graceful... This non-verbal performance does not rely on words but communicates with elegant and universal body language. Perfectly combines martial arts with dance. The show also reveals the aesthetics, exquisite beauty and the origin of Thai kickboxing." - Kom Chad Luek Newspaper
