Sanshou tournament in Perth this 30th October 2011
Anyone interested in fighting sanshou in Perth this coming 30th october 2011? It will be under IWUF rules and managed by AKWF. Please PM me, I am looking for a team to go regardless of club.
Sanshou isnt Muay Thai though, rules are whacky and if anything like the MT vs Sanshou in CHina unless you KO the guy you'll lose as Nak Muay as if gives more points to the throws which dont damage your opponent.... horses for courses but its a different sport...
There are throws that do damage your opponents, just that there are simpler throws that allow you to score the point and happen not to hurt the opponent.
Saying that, most of the throws such as a pile driver, falling into a locked joint are banned for safety reasons.
I am going to say the China fights between SS and MT are biased, but it is not a standard for the rest of the world. I have seen a fight between 2 figther from both styles and from respective native countries of the arts origin compete and the MT won!
This was in Australia and the fight record for the the China guy prior to the fight was 22-0-0! But the Thai guy was...
...118-13-5.
I will agree with you that MT is not SS, visa versa and I disagree with almagam of rules and pitting 2 different style of fighting together as it really does not reflect the fighters' skills properly. But fights between 2 arts are big draw with the masses and that is good business sense to the promoters/

BTW my club is offering free training to anyone who wants to go for the event. Only request is that you indicate you are affliated with us, there is no need to fight under our banner.
Transport and lodging are borne by you, however if you can get a group to come early, I might be able to do bulk booking for your lodging.
As I travel back and forth from Oz frequently, I can help you find a cheap place to stay that's not nasty.
This invite is not solely to Singaporean, but to anyone anywhere, so long they can afford the trip and stay.
