The 1st Asian Martial Arts Games 2009 are taking place in Bangkok, after months of delays. 44 nations sent 892 athletes to compete in 9 sports: Karate, Taekwondo, Muaythai, Kickboxing, Jujitsu, Judo, Kurash, Wushu & Kungfu, Pencak Silat.
The mascot of the Games is Hanuman: a white–creamy super monkey considered as the God of the ape which has every kind of fighting skill with strong determination of great success. Being the Mighty Ape, “Hanuman” often shares in the traditional flower festival as a gesture of warm welcome and inspires friendship and unity for all the Asian peoples.
As expected, Thailand snatched most of the gold medals in the muay thai competition. For more results and info check the official website.
Singapore sent athletes to take part in Pencak Silat and Taekwondo, but not Muay Thai
At the time of writing Team Singapore won 2 silver and 3 bronze medals:
