i hear all 3 universities are under daren da silva from fight g and all fighters are first time fighters.

on top of that, heard that daren does not really welcome fighters from under gyms to other than his own to train with the university clubs.

Yep, if someone from another gym wins, some coaches feel they have lost face so its safer to have it among themselves....sigh.....

heres the answer to your question grake.

i just spoke to someone at NUS. and heres what i've been told.

all the fighters are from the three schools, all under daren, all fighting for the first time. so it will be all daren's boys/girls, we wont be seeing the likes of taufik, paul, kenji. basically non of the gyms are represented. no hilltop, lana, asf, bxg, mtw.

i think i am going skip it. heard theres a competition in feb/mar?? any info? Alvin seet organising?

Darren De Silva?? Are you sure? darren specialises in mixed martial arts and hapkido...gosh....I wonder who's judging the matches then?? And it will be interesting!! We'll get to see if muaythai or mixed martial arts is used in the ring!!!! }:) }:) }:)

maybe it is good to go down and take a look... I'm probably be going down maybe with a couple of my friends. It is alright if they want to keep it to themselves maybe they will put up a good show... I'm just worry that they give the public the wrong idea about Muaythai and cause all our hardwork that we have put in for the past one year or more to go down the drain.

Because I've heard from my friends, recently lots of gyms which are MMA or other martial arts has been going around doing their so call Muaythai exhibition and their kicks were all wrong and sort. Only ended up making a fool of themselves and destroy the image of Muaythai. Making a bad example of muaythai... Of cause I don't expect everyone to be like zach but at least admit that you're teaching the wrong stuff and don't go around telling people this is Muaythai.

nah... not saying anything about his gym... so not to worry... I'm cool... Its some black sheeps only. Plus the media are creating an awareness in Muaythai and with the contender now showing on AXN. Surely there are some just erm some blacksheep wanting to take this opportunity to bring up their gyms or sort and in the end it will ruin the sport itself.

I wont worry too much about that. Seeing is believing. I am not saying anything abt his gym either...just posing questions. However, if I do find that Muaythai is not practiced but something else is and under the pretext of "MuayThai", be it any gym or whatsoever. I will create a huge media furore to expose the scam. }:) }:) Beee

Ya I agreed... so anyway, we will just watch the competition this coming friday. It will be good if they open the fights to other gyms instead of keeping it to themselves. More competition equals to more improvement for the fighters and the gyms. k... btw sorry for creating such a commotion.

one reason we wont get to see the likes of wangyu, paul, taufik is cos they are not in our local unis. and this event after all is an inter uni tournament.

i guess to have more variety, competition, some gyms could look into speaking to unis, or the unis themselves realise that this "monopoly" is blocking the progress of singapore muaythai

Frankly, I doubt the Universities care about the advancement of muay thai. Gotta have a different slant if you want to sell them that idea. Like what's in it for them.

It's a great promotional stunt though (from a business standpoint), gotta admit that.

like i said, some people are not going to take it too well with certain remarks.

and let me reiterate, darren does do muay thai. if i am not wrong, some of the contenders trained at his gym before they moved into the loft.

rafik, yod are some names i heard. so yes, for the uninitiated who thinks he is a quack, like i said before he is not one.

maybe we gotta sell the idea that one coach controlling 3 unis is not good for competition. i am pretty sure the different schools like to beat the crap outta each other in other sports like soccer, basketball or what have you and at academics too. maybe they should be reminded that using the same coach aint gonna let that happen.

anyway tonight will be an explosive episode with an explosive fight

Hmm... reiterate for? none of us mention he was a quack or anything, like I say before I'm not pointing fingers at any gym. What I'm bring out the point is that Muaythai is slowly being popular these day... and we're worry that other martial gyms might tried to use this opportunity to bring up their gym and teaches the wrong fact.

So please don't misunderstand and twist my words.... Thanks you!

Grake, no one says you are and why do you have to defend yourself for? Guilty?

Muay thai is always popular, it just happen that Sg is only started catching up.

What Fact are you talking? a Legit Muaythai school with legit muay thai coach can teach wrong fact? What facts?

Gyms that is under AMAS has a strict guide to follow. You dont come and try twist and bend your words around and start to talk about FACTs now.

I understand Luci there might be some misunderstanding thinking at I'm going against your gym or sort. In fact I'm not... If any gym out there who teaches the correct fact of muaythai I'll give my fullest support. I'm just saying that only a small group of blacksheep out there that are trying spolit the image of muaythai by teaching the wrong stuff.

Btw, Luci if you wanted to use any hostile words please msg me in private. This is a forum. Thank you!

You keep mentioning Correct Fact. Please tell us here what is the correct fact?

You are a moderator and your job is to moderate this forum and not trying to create dissent and war among people. It seems that you have done the opposite here.

Quote:

You are slamming the Unis which is under Fight G saying they might give the public wrong idea about muay thai which in turn you are slamming Fight G for not teaching correct muaythai.
If Fight G is not teaching correct muaythai, will Fight G be allowed in AMAS? Is Darren not a certified Muaythai instructor?

This is obvious you are doing something not a moderater should be doing.

The worry part you should let AMAS deal with it. Your job should just moderate this forum. Thank you.

and let me reiterate, darren does do muay thai. if i am not wrong, some of the contenders trained at his gym before they moved into the loft.

rafik, yod are some names i heard. so yes, for the uninitiated who thinks he is a quack, like i said before he is not one.

Just out of curiousity guys, does anyone know what are the requirements to get certified as a Muay Thai coach in Singapore? (No, I don't want to start a gym LOL!)

I've always wondered what it meant when someone says on his resume that he's a certified Muay Thai coach. How long is the course, and what's covered in the syllabus? For e.g. do you have to go 5 rounds of 3 mins in the ring, demonstrate a certain level of proficiency at padwork/sparring etc.? Does anyone actually fail these certification courses?

Do you have to be fighting at an amateur or professional level, or at least have a certain number of fights under your belt of something to be certified?

Anyone knows? Thanks!

Politicians and diapers must be changed often and usually for the same reason.

Thanks for asking Kiat! I was very tempted to ask the same question too!
